Join the Club! There’s Always Something to Do in Big Canoe

Canoe Life ® in our beautiful mountains is peaceful and quiet—but it never has to be boring! Big Canoe is home to dozens of groups and clubs dedicated to sharing a huge variety of activities and interests with fellow residents. Writing, woodworking, volunteering at our very own animal shelter (BCAR), billiards, photography, quilting, hiking, bridge, and trivia are just a few of the many ways to connect with other enthusiasts inside the gates.

Volunteers with academic prowess can tutor children at nearby Tate Elementary and the Dawson or Pickens County schools, or work with the Reading Education Association of Dawson County (READ) to promote literacy. Game enthusiasts can play Mahjongg, bocce, golf, Texas Hold ‘Em, or enjoy a lively round of bridge with friends. Those with a talent for crafts can stitch, knit, carve, and scrapbook. Nature lovers can join the hiking and trail groups or help beautify our surroundings with the Wildflower Bunch Garden Club.

Opportunities for artists, writers, and musicians abound, with multiple writing and book clubs, artists’ groups, and the legendary Big Canoe Acoustic Music Jam. There are also many opportunities to give back to the community; Habitat for Humanity, Big Canoe Volunteer Fire Department, Boys & Girls Club of North Georgia, Appalachian Children’s Emergency Shelter, and Hope House have dedicated chapters here. And those seeking spiritual growth have a wealth of options, including Women of Spirit, Chapel Men’s Fellowship, and Chapel Women’s Guild Bible Study.
