We all know that Big Canoe is a beautiful and unique place. That same natural beauty that drew all of us to Big Canoe also has the potential to create challenges for the elderly and physically impaired among us. In 2015, after many years of discussion and planning among concerned Big Canoe residents who wanted to support the goal of independent living in our beautiful mountain community, the Big Canoe Wellness Collaborative was created. The Big Canoe Wellness Collaborative is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization supported by the POA, Chapel and Developer. Our mission, simply stated, is to promote wellness and quality of life for all residents in Big Canoe and the surrounding area at no cost through four programs: BC RIDES, BC MEALS, BC VISITS and BC INFO.
Big Canoe is a community of “neighbors helping neighbors” and we recognize that the Collaborative exists because of the generosity of our volunteers and donors. On November 19 at 6:00 p.m., the Collaborative will be hosting a “Taste of the Mountains” fundraising event at the Big Canoe Clubhouse to celebrate our one-year anniversary of providing services. This exciting event will include food stations with small plate/appetizer offerings of specialties from participating local restaurants, wine pairings selected by the Big Canoe Wine Group and even a silent auction to round off the evening. Our goal is to raise funds to help underwrite the Collaborative’s operations and to purchase a unique piece of rehab equipment particularly suited for disabled and/or stroke victims, that will be available for all to use at the Fitness Center. Reservations are only $75 per person with no cancellations after November 16th ($25 is tax deductible).
We hope you will join us at the Clubhouse on 11/19 for an evening of great food, celebration and friendship. Most importantly, you will be contributing toward a great cause as the Wellness Collaborative attempts to expand its services to those people in need both inside and outside the Big Canoe gates (our future goal). To learn more about the Big Canoe Wellness Collaborative and to make your reservation for our upcoming Taste of the Mountains Event, visit our website here. Reservations are limited and we are nearly half sold already, so don’t wait! If you are unable to attend the event but would still like to assist in our joint efforts for the Community, please consider becoming a trained volunteer or making a financial donation. No matter what your background, there is always some way you can help! Email us at info@bcwell.org to learn about other ways to help.
